PCAT - Augst 22, 2009.... Thoughts and Reactions

For those who took the PCAT today, please share your thoughts on the exam. How did you prepare? What would you have done differently? All insight is appreciated.

I hope to finish up the remaining personal statements this weekend, so please don't think that I have forgotten to respond to your emails and questions. I will get back to everyone asap.

Thank you.

I feel I was better prepared for this test than the one in June. The practice test definitely helped with the math portion, since it gives a good idea about what type of math problems are on the actual test.

Since it was my first time in a long time taking a standardized test, I did a bit better than I would have expected.

As for the test itself, I think that the environment itself was a problem for me. The proctors were very disorganized thus making more stressful.

I felt very confident on the reading sections, biology, verbal and the math sections. Not so much for the chemistry and writing.

TIP for future PCAT examinees:

Make sure you do the timed tests. It gives you an overall picture of answering 48 questions in 30, 40, or 50 minutes.

From there, go over the material in which you got wrong. Compile a list of things that you need to review and strengthen those topics.

It went about as expected. This was my first time. I heard that it takes a long time to get results back so I'm not sure if I should register for the October test or not. Can anyone tell me if we'll have results before we need to pay for October?

I felt a lot better than when I took it in June, mostly because I hadn't prepared myself for the PCAT the first time I took the test. I hadn't signed up for the August PCAT until I got my score the end of July, about 5 weeks after the test. At that time it was still possible to sign up for the PCAT, there was just a late fee that had to be paided. So I am planning on registering for the October PCAT, only if I need to, as soon as I get my scores. So from my experience you should still have time to sign up for the October PCAT but I would double check the PCAT website to see when the last day to do a late registration is just in case.
